John Isner

A first-time meeting between fellow Americans John Isner and Bradley Klahn will be featured in the Tuesday evening session at the Winston-Salem Open. Both players are going through dry spells and looking for big wins ahead of the US Open next week.

Following Isner’s title win at the Atlanta Open, where he proclaiming his love for the North American hard court portion of the season, he lost in the opening round in Washington and Toronto to Steve Johnson and Ivan Dodig respectively. They were surprising losses considering his form just weeks before. He improved in Cincinnati and picked up wins over Kevin Anderson and Marinko Matosevic before losing to Andy Murray in a highly competitive three-set encounter. He will be looking to make a deep run to build his confidence and momentum ahead of the US Open.

World No. 117 Bradley Klahn began his week in Winston-Salem with a three-set victory over John McEnroe protégée Noah Rubin. The American won the contest 6-2, 0-6, 7-6(5) in 2 hours and 12 minutes. Klahn hit 7 aces and won 71% of his first service points in the process.

This is the first time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour. Isner will certainly be a favourite in this match and barring any exceptional surprises, he should get out of this match-up unscathed.

Prediction: John Isner in Straight Sets
