Simona Halep succeeded in achieving her dream of winning a championship in Romania; it was not easy at times, but she ultimately culminated her dream week with a title win at the inaugural Bucharest Open.
After slight struggles in her quarter-final and semi-final match-ups, the world No. 3 needed merely 68 minutes to get past Italy’s Roberta Vinci to secure her second title of the season. After snatching the opener 6-1, Halep would go down 2-0 in the second set but recovered efficiently to close out the match 6-1, 6-3. Her final game would be a love service game to secure the championship in dominant fashion.
Since the midway point of 2013, Halep has won title in Nürnberg, ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Budapest, New Haven, Moscow Sofia, Doha and now Bucharest.
Apart from cementing her third place spot on the WTA rankings, Halep is now also within 11 points of Maria Sharapova on the Road To Singapore leaderboard for first place.
