The BB&T Atlanta Open tournament director revealed on Thursday afternoon that Americans Robby Ginepri and Ryan Harrison have accepted wildcards into the main draw of the event next week.
Ginepri is a former world No. 15 who is the only active American player to reach the semi-final stage of a Grand Slam tournament, which he did back in 2003 t the US Open.
Harrison, a far younger competitor, was a former world No. 43 and believd to be the future of American tennis. While he did not live up to that moniker, Harrison does generally perform well in Atlanta, as he reached the semi-final round last year as well as in 2011. He also won the doubles event here in 2012.
“We’re ecstatic to welcome back two of our fan favorites in Ryan Harrison and Atlanta metro resident Robby Ginepri,” Gonzalez said. “One of our goals is to highlight American talent and both of these players are great examples of the fine players this country has produced.
Also, Korey Lovett won the BB&T Atlanta Open Wild Card Challenge and earned a wild card into the Qualifying Tournament.
The BB&T Atlanta Open is the first men’s event on the Emirates Airline US Open Series and takes place between July 19-27 at the Atlantic Station.
