William Morris Endeavour’s IMG talent representation has officially announced the signing of French tennis star Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Carlos Fleming, who manages former Grand Slam winner and world No. 1 Venus Williams, as well as a variety of other athletes including Michelle Wie, Victor Cruz and Cam Newton will represent the world No. 15 for the foreseeable future.
IMG also represents the likes of Novak Djkovic, Kei Nishikori, Maria Sharapova and Li Na.
“We are thrilled that Jo-Wilfried chose IMG to represent him.” Fernando Soler, the managing director of IMG Tennis, said. “He is a terrific player and a great person, and we look forward to strengthening and growing his global brand on and off the tennis court.”
According to Sports Business Daily, Tsonga currently has deals with Adidas and Babolat and is contractually obligated to them for several more years.
Although the signing is a positive move for Tsonga, he is still desperately looking to regain his top form ahead of the season’s final Grand Slam event. After significant inconsistencies on clay this season, where he lost in the second round in Madrid and a third round showing in Rome, he arrived at Roland Garros in slightly better form and managed to reach the fourth round before succumbing to Novak Djokovic at that stage of the event.
Following his less than stellar run on clay, Tsonga continued his mediocre performances on grass, where he lost his second match at Queen’s Club to Marinko Matosevic before losing to world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the fourth round of the Wimbledon Championships. Tsonga has garnered a 24-13 record thus far this season.
