It will be interesting to see if the Frenchwoman can put up a fight this time around on a grass court. Check out the Williams vs Cornet Head to Head matches.

Five-time champion Serena Williams is through to the third round of The Championships with a 6-1, 6-1 shellacking of South African Chanelle Scheepers. It was another straightforward Williams performance, where she hit 26 winners with just seven unforced errors to secure the win in 49 minutes.

“I’m always the favorite,” Williams acknowledged afterwards. “It’s been that way for the last three years and maybe years before that. So it can create pressure. But it’s okay – I’d rather it was that way.

Alize Cornt faced a far more competitive contest en route to the third round of the tournament, as she defeated Petra Cetkovska 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. It was a hard fought battle but she will have the benefit of a day’s rest before she has to once again attempts the remarkable feat of defeating Williams.

“She does everything well – that’s why she was able to get a good win off of me,” Williams said of Cornet. “And she never gives up – she’s a really big fighter, and she gets a lot of balls back.

This is the fifth time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour, and arguably their most anticipated encounter yet. With Cornet riding off the confidence of her first win over Williams, it will be interesting to see if she can translate this into her biggest win on grass.

Prediction: Serena Williams in Three Sets
