Former Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis is expected to take part in next week’s Aegon Championships at Queen’s Club.
After missing the entire clay court portion of the season due to injuries, Baghdatis began his clay court season in Nottingham, where he is now through to the final. The Cypriot defeated Igor Sijsling 6-4, 6-2 to set up a final against Gilles Muller at the Aegon Trophy.
Baghdatis also made it clear that he is motivated to continue playing, and aims to make a return to the Top 10 in the Emirates ATP rankings.
“I want to get back to where I was before—I’ve done it all before and it is a big challenge for me,” he said, adding he would like to play more big matches in big stadiums.”
British No. 1 Andy Murray will be defending his title at the Aegon Championships this year. The draw is yet to be released, but the tournament will include a variety of top competitors including Stanislas Wawrinka, Tomas Berdych, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Grigor Dimitrov, Marin Cilic, Ernests Gulbis and Lleyton Hewitt.
