 Novak Djokovic French Open

Following rain-interrupted first round triumphs, Novak Djokovic and France’s Jeremy Chardy will clash in the second round of the French Open. The head-to-head series stands at 8-0, with their most recent contest taking place earlier this year at the Sony Open. Check out the Djokovic vs Chardy Head to Head matches.

The world No. 2 cruised into the second round at Roland Garros with a comfortable 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 win over Portugal’s Joao Sousa. It was a frustrating experience for the two competitors, who had to deal with significant rain fall and delay before the conclusion of the contest.

“I played, for most of the match, quite solid,” said Djokovic. “[The] end of the match was not so nice from my side. [I] dropped my serve twice. “

Djokovic, who is now 25-3 so far this season, will next face Jeremy Chardy, who holds a key win over Roger Federer in 2014 in the opening round of the Rome Masters a few short weeks ago. The Frenchman began his week in Paris with a 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 win over Spain’s Daniel Gimeno-Traver.

“He (Chardy) had a big win against Federer in Rome, so I’m sure he’s very motivated to play his best. But I [have been] looking forward to this tournament for a long time. I’m in a good form, and hopefully I can use that against Chardy.”

In their eight previous encounters, Chardy has never managed a victory over the former world No. 1. Apart from never winning a match, Chardy has never even managed to win a single set – cementing Djokovic’s dominance in the rivalry. This will likely be another straight sets victory for the Serb, but considering Chardy’s morale-boosting performances over the past few weeks, he may manage to snatch a set off the second seed.

Prediction: Novak Djokovic in Straight Sets
