Milos Raonic French Open

Arguably the most appealing first round match-up on Monday afternoon is the one between Canadian No. 1 Milos Raonic and budding talent Nick Kyrgios. It will mark the first time they clash on the professional tour and can be considered a battle between the two members of the new generation in tennis.

Following consecutive second round losses in Monte Carlo, Oeiras and Madrid, Milos Raonic had a much better showing in Rome, where he defeated Bolelli, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Jeremy Chardy before losing to Novak Djokovic in a three set semi-final. The world No. 9 is now 6-4 on clay so far this season and is showing some positive signs ahead of his return to Paris. The Canadian is 4-3 at Roland Garros and is defending third round points at the event this season.

19-year-old Nick Kyrgios, who received a wildcard into the French Open, announced himself on the world stage at this same Grand Slam event last year, where he produced a remarkable straight sets upset against Radek Stepanek.

This marks the first time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour and should be a contest that will intrigue the vast majority of fans and pundits alike. Both youngsters have bright futures ahead of them, yet Raonic, who is three years the elder, holds the advantage in experience and court savvy, but it will be interesting to see if Kyrgios can summon another first round upset at Roland Garros.

Prediction: Milos Raonic in Four Sets
