Ana Ivanovic

A fourth encounter between Ana Ivanovic vs Elina Svitolina is scheduled to take place in the second round of the French Open on Thursday afternoon. Ivanovic leads the head-to-head series with an undefeated 3-0 record and will be looking to extend that streak against the top ranked teenager.

While many expected a stern test in her opening round contest, Ana Ivanovic made quick work of her French opponent Caroline Garcia in her Paris opener to set up the clash with Svitolina. The 2008 French Open champion is one of the leading contenders to take the title this season, along with Simona Halep,  with the defending champion Serena Williams crahing out today against Garbine Muguruza.

“I expected a very tough match,” Ivanovic said. “Especially since she’s been playing really well on clay. It was the first time we played against each other, but I just stuck with the tactics that I talked about with my coach. I started off really well and aggressively, and I sort of felt I was on top of her for the rest of the match. This gives me lots of confidence, and I’m really happy with the win.

“The last few weeks I have really played some good tennis. I beat a lot of top players. That’s what you need before you get to a Grand Slam. It’s important to work through these tough matches and try to build on that.”

Her upcoming opponent, Elina Svitolina, had an even quicker opening round match, as she was on court for only 5 games before her Croatian opponent Petra Martic retired with an injury.

Ivanovic leads the head-to-head series 3-0, including a recent win in the second round at Indian Wells this year. All those contests took place on hard court but it is difficult to see this match being much different.

Prediction: Ana Ivanovic in Straight Sets
