Maria Sharapova won the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart on Sunday afternoon for the third year in a row when she overcame Ana Ivanovic in three sets. The 6th seeded Russian had taken out top seeded Agnieszka Radwanska in the quarters and demolished 8th seeded Sara Errani in the semis, while the 9th seeded Serb did not face a seed until she number 5 Jelena Jankovic in the semis, after 2nd seeded Simona Halep lost in the second round.
Sharapova led the head to head 7-2, with Ivanovic not having beaten her since 2007. This stat seemed under threat from the get go, when the Serb built a formidable 5-0 lead in the first set, but the Russian took three games in a row to trail 3-5 before Ivanovic sealed the set with a magnificent cross court winner. The first three games of the second set went with serve before Ivanovic broke for 3-1. Sharapova took the next four games before Ivanovic got another game, but the Russian served out the set at 6-4. The Serb was broken in the first game of the decider and Sharapova held for 2-0. Ivanovic got on the scoreboard but then lost the plot with her earlier wonderful serving letting her down and the stunning shots which all hit their mark in the first set and a half going woefully out of court. Sharapova took the next four games for the set at 6-1 and her third title in this tournament.
