A highly awaited first time encounter is scheduled to take place in the opening round of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, as Top 20 competitors Ana Ivanovic and Sabine Lisicki meet on Wednesday afternoon in Stuttgart. It is somewhat surprising that these two competitors have never crossed paths on the WTA tour and it will certainly make for an entertaining affair.
World No. 12 Ana Ivanovic has had a sort of resurgence in 2014, as the former No. 1 ranked Serb won a title in Auckland before reaching the quarter-final at the Australian Open, the fourth round in Miami, as well as a second title last week in Monterrey, where she defeated Jovana Jaksic in the final. Now 19-5 this season, Ivanovic will be looking to carry forth her momentum from last week and make another deep run in Stuttgart.
World No. 15 Sabine Lisicki is struggling to get a foothold in the 2014 season, as she is yet to get past the third round of any tournament so far this season. Recently, she lost her opening round match against Aleksandra Wozniak in Indian Wells, her third round match against Kirsten Flipkens, as well as her third round match against Andrea Petkovic in Charleston. While she is 5-4 in singles competition this season, her highlight was a doubles title win with partner Martina Hingis at the Sony Open last month. She will be looking to get back on track as one of the local favourites in Stuttgart.
This marks the first time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour and will likely make for an interesting battle. Lisicki has been struggling to find her form so far this season, and while she is capable of dispatching the Serb, it will be Ivanovic who walks away with the victory tomorrow afternoon.
Prediction: Ana Ivanovic in Straight Sets
