Top seed and hometown favourite Agineszka Radwanska is through to the quarter-final round in Katowice following a fifth consecutive straight sets victory over Francesca Schiavone. The Polish star needed to work hard in the opening set to recover from 2-4 down, yet still managed to close it out 6-4. The second set was a simpler affair, as she snatched the necessary breaks and held her lead for a 6-3 finish to the delight of the crowd in attendance.
“Francesca already showed that she’s in great form here in Katowice when she dropped just two games in her first round match,” Radwanska said. “I expected a tough battle from start to finish, and I got exactly what I expected. She moved so well today that I had to show my best tennis to beat her.
“I’m really happy I managed to close out the match in straight sets.”

- Radwanska is looking for her 14th WTA title.
