16th Seed Samantha Stosur and Italy’s Francesca Schiavone will meet in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open. The two competitors are familiar with each other, having met on eleven different occasions on the professional tour dating back to 2005. The Stosur vs Schiavone Head to Head stands at 7-4

Stosur began her season in Hobart, where she reached the semi-finals before losing to Klara Zakopalova. She would go on to reach the third round of the Australian open, the second round in Doha and a surprising opening round loss to Annika Beck in Dubai. Following that upset, she will be looking to redeem herself with a strong showing this week at Indian Wells.

Francesca Schiavone picked up her first win of the season on Thursday afternoon, when she rallied from a set down to defeat Mona Darthel 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.  The world No. 44 snapped a seven match losing streak that spanned back to the start of the season in Brisbane. She will be looking to string together back to back victories for the first time in nearly five months when she meets Stosur in the second round.

This marks the 12th time these two competitors will meet on the professional circuit, with Stosur leading the series 7-4. Stosur also won 3 of their past 5 encounters dating back to the WTA Championships in Qatar. The Australian should manage a convincing victory, as Schiavone has been far from consistent this season.

Prediction: Samantha Stosur in Straight Sets
