Rising star Eugenie Bouchard will being her campaign at the Sony Open with a second round match-up against Elina Svitolina, whom she has never faced on the professional tour, but defeated in a Fed Cup tie last year.

Following her debut in a Grand Slam semi-final at this year’s Australian Open event, world No. 19 Eugenie Bouchard was unable to capitalize on the momentum. She managed two successful contests in the Fed Cup tie against Serbia, yet has since lost in the first round in Doha, failed to qualify for Dubai, reached the quarter-finals in Acapulco and recently lost in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells. She will be looking to pick up the pace and make a deep run in the Miami this fortnight, starting with a strong showing against Svitolina.

World No. 42 Elina Svitolina is coming off a second round exit to Ana Ivanovic at Indian Wells. She holds a 7-6 record this season, with her best showing taking place in Paris, where she reached the quarter-finals before losing to the top ranked Italian Sara Errani.

While these two competitors have never clashed on the WTA tour, they met last year in a Canada vs. Ukraine tie, which Bouchard won 6-7(8) 6-3 6-2. Depending on Bouchard’s level of play tomorrow afternoon, Svitolina may be able to capture a set but will ultimately surrender the match.

Prediction: Eugenie Bouchard in Straight Sets
