Maria Kirilenko

In this second round  match at the Kremlin Cup in Moscow, the 2010 finalist Maria Kirilenko (Player Bio) will face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (Player Bio). Check out the Kirilenko vs Pavlyuchenkova Head to Head.

Pavlyuchenkova hasn’t been able to produce her best tennis in Moscow during her career, this is Anastasia’s sixth appearance and this year is the first time she has passed the first round. The Monterrey and Portugal Open champion defeated Caroline Garcia 6-0 6-3.

Kirilenko had a bye in the first round. This will be a very difficult debut for her after a good performance at Beijing when losing to Serena Williams 7-5 7-5.

This is the third meeting between the two players, Pavlyuchenkova claimed the first match in 2009 at Dubai 6-2 6-4 and in the same year Kirilenko emerged victorious at Bastad’s clay 6-2 6-3.

Kirilenko hasn’t played yet at Moscow and I don’t see that as positive. She will play her first hard court Indoor match in 9 months and will struggle at first with the game conditions for sure. Anastasia already has got a win under her belt, showing tremendous confidence against Garcia.

Anastasia has a good chance here to make it into the quarter-finals and I think she can beat her fellow countrywoman.  This should be a very interesting match, Pavlyuchenkova powerful groundstrokes against Kirilenko’s counterpunching skills.

Big question here is how well will Maria adapt to the game conditions and whether she can get off to a good start. However, if not this should be Pavlyuchenkova’s game and the World No. 30 should advance into the next round.

Prediction – Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will come out as a winner.
