After Victoria Azarenka’s loss last night, an opportunity for either Na Li (Player Profile) or Jelena Jankovic (Player Profile) to top the group has arisen with both players still having the chance to go unbeaten in the round robin stage. Check out the Li Na v Jankovic Head to Head.

You would have to favour Jankovic right now after she had a fairly easy time against Azarenka in her opening match of the WTA Championships. Jankovic prevailed 6-4 6-3 over the Australian Open winner and was well worth the scoreline. Although converting just four, the Serbian’s domination showed in the number of break point chances she created at a massive 17. Azarenka has been far from her best since losing the US Open final but it was a mightily impressive performance from Jankovic who never let the lead slip once going up a break for a *3-2 lead.

Meanwhile, Li made it two losses out of two for Sara Errani who also had injury question marks over her coming into the match. Li was made to work hard for 6-3 7-6 win, especially in the second set where she failed to serve it out twice and also missed four match points before emerging victorious with a 7-5 win in the tiebreak.

With Jankovic scheduled to play Errani in her final round robin match, the opportunity to top the group and surely miss Serena Williams is at stake in this match. Li holds a 5-4 record over Jankovic although this year was the first time the two have played since 2009. Jankovic was a winner on the clay of Rome but an easy loser in the US Open, winning just three games.

However, indoor hard courts have never been a favourite of Li and you would have to give the advantage to Jankovic who is high on confidence right now.

Prediction: Jelena Jankovic in three sets
