Former World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki (Player Bio) and current top star Serena Williams (Player Bio) will meet for the seventh time on the professional tour. Williams will be looking to pick up her 10 title of the season while Wozniacki is in search for her first this year as the two players meet in the quarter-finals of the WTA China Open. The Serena vs Wozniacki Head to Head stands at 5-1.

Wozniacki had a tough opening set against Sloane Stephens, who arrived in Beijing determined to defeat the Dane for the first time in her career. While there were a few tense games at the start of the set and a couple of breakpoint opportunities for Stephens, the 23-year-old was able to overcome the threat and dispatch of the young American 6-3, 6-1.

The World No. 8 holds a 35-21 record heading into her quarter-final contest against Williams. Her best performance of the year came during the Indian Wells tournament in March where she defeated Petrova, Kerber and Azarenka (withdrawal) prior to succumbing to Maria Sharapova in the final. She is coming off a quarterfinal loss to Azarenka in Cincinnati and a semifinal loss Simona Halep in New Haven. She is yet to win her first title of the year and did not reach the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time since 2008.

Williams had a difficult third round contest against Maria Kirilenko yet eventually overcame the Russian 7-5, 7-5 in a turbulent contest. Kirilenko broke Williams in the first set at 5-4 and held three set points before Williams rallied to win the set. The American went down a break in the second set as well but recovered once again to take the set and win her 70th match of the season. She also improved to 8-0 against Kirilenko.

The top seed has beaten Wozniacki in five of their six previous encounter, with the latest being a quick 6-0, 6-3 win back at the 2012 London Olympics. She holds three hard court wins over the Dane but Caroline won their last hard court match in Miami last year. While Wozniacki has only even taken two sets off Williams, this promises to be an entertaining quarter-final contest.
