Juan Martin Del Potro (Player Bio) goes for his seven consecutive win when he takes on Tommy Haas (Player Bio) in the third round of Shanghai. Although almost a dead cert to qualify, the pressure eases on the Argentinian in terms of his chances of making the ATP World Tour Finals after Andy Murray’s withdrawal. Check out the Del Potro vs Haas Head to Head.
Del Potro had an incredibly tough match against Philipp Kohlschreiber winning 3-6 6-3 7-6(4). Del Potro was broken when serving for the match but recovered to take the tiebreak, helped by earning the first point against the serve of the German.
Haas made it this far with two 6-4 6-4 victories over Sam Querrey and most recently Daniel Brands in the second round. Haas has been helped by big serving, hitting 75% first serve in both the victories and facing just two break points in the two matches, both of which were saved by him.
This encounter is a favourable matchup for Del Potro who leads the head to head 5-0 against Haas and is yet to drop a set. Four of the five meetings have been on hard courts with wins in Indian Wells and Washington this year. After a comprehensive 6-1 6-2 victory in the former, Haas was much closer but was defeated 7-6 6-3.
Prediction: Juan Martin Del Potro in straight sets
