Stanislas Wawrinka (Bio) hopes to make it 11th time lucky in Shanghai when he plays Rafael Nadal (Bio) in this quarter final matchup. Wawrinka has finally become the Swiss no.1 after making it further than Roger Federer who was defeated by Gael Monfils yesterday. Check out the Nadal vs Wawrinka Head to Head.
To make it this far, Wawrinka has had to withstand the wrath of two big servers. Kevin Anderson was defeated in three sets while it was a little easier against Milos Raonic. As expected, breaks were at a minimum in the match with the Canadian. Wawrinka didn’t face a single break point while converting one in the second set of the 7-6 6-4 win.
Nadal was given a test in the second set of his win over Carlos Berlocq. The Argentinian held a *4-1 lead in the second set tiebreak to give the new No.1 a scare but Nadal recovered, winning six of the last seven points in the match to win it 6-1 7-6.
Nadal’s record against players with one handed backhands is well publicised and it is no different with Wawrinka. Nadal has won all ten meetings between the two and is yet to drop a single set . They have met twice this year and four times on hard courts but the result has been the same each time.
Wawrinka is in good form but even still it is difficult seeing him do anything to reverse the dominance that Nadal has on him.
Prediction: Rafael Nadal in straight sets
