World No.1 Novak Djokovic (Player Profile) joined Chinese superstar Li Na (Player Profile) in a charity match just before the start of the China Open. The reason for this ‘Battle of the sexes’ showdown was the celebration of the 10th anniversary of this world wide known tennis tournament.

The most famous ‘Battle of the sexes’ happened exactly 40 years ago, when Billie Jean King faced Bobby Riggs in the 1973 super match at the Houston Astrodome, with King emerging victorious after a straight sets wictory 6-4 6-3 6-3.

Li Na, who has inspired many Chinese with her Roland Garros triumph back in 2011 when defeating Francesca Schiavone in the final, is planning to be involved in some charity work after retiring from professional tennis.

Playing in front of 12,000 spectators at the Beijing Olympic Stadium, Li defeated Djokovic with 3-2 in a mini set where the Chinese player had the advantage of being 30-0 up at the start of each of the games.

Novak will try to stay at the top of the ATP rankings next week. It will all come down not only to his performance at the China Open, but should Rafa Nadal reach the final, he will take over the No.1 rankings spot.
