Playing on Court 1 were French 15th seed Marion Bartoli and American 17th seed Sloane Stephens. These two players have quietly made their way to the quarters, with Bartoli winning her first four matches in straight sets, not having to face a seed. The young American also did not face a seed, but her last three matches had all gone to three difficult sets. They had met once in the past on a hard court in 2012, which Bartoli won in three. There were no breaks in the first nine games when, with Stephens serving at 40-40 to stay in the set, the rain came down and the players went off court. When they resumed under the roof, Bartoli broke and took the set 6-3 on her third set point. In the second set there were eight breaks in the first nine games, with both players playing very aggressively, for Bartoli to lead 5-4. Stephens and Bartoli then each held before Bartoli got the final break to take the set 7-5.

The final quarter final match was between the Belgian 20th seed, Kirsten Flipkens, playing in her first ever grand slam quarter final; and 2011 champion and 8th seed, Petra Kvitova. Last year Flipkens was ranked 262 and did not even make the qualifiers. Kvitova had two very tough three setters and a walkover on her route through to the quarters, while Flipkens had four relatively easy straight sets wins. Flipkens led the head to head 2-1, having won their last match in the second round in Miami earlier this year in three sets. The Czech was not feeling well before the match and had medical treatment, while the Belgian had a very heavily strapped right knee. Kvitova broke in the 5th game, Flipkens broke right back and then Kvitova broke again for 5-3. The Belgian held but the Czech sealed the set at 6-4. In the second set Flipkens broke in the 6th game and then held to lead 5-2. The doctor then came on court for Kvitova and she took another game before the Belgian served out the set at 6-3. In the decider Flipkens got the first break in the 9th game and held her nerve to serve out the set with a fine ace at 6-4. She will meet Marion Bartoli in the semis.
