Stan Wawrinka set up a clash against Gastao Elias, whilst Andreas Seppi will meet Tommy Robredo in Portugal Open 2013 quarter-finals.

Second seed Wawrinka recovered after a shaky start against Albert Ramos of Spain to turn around the second round match in Estoril. He was broken twice in the opener which was over in twenty-six minutes. A single break point was created in the second set and the Swiss took advantage of it to ultimately make it one set each. He then grabbed an early break in the decider and generated five match points before sealing a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.

Seed number three Seppi was largely untroubled by Colombian Alejandro Falla. While he had to break his adversary twice to move one set up, he did not allow him winning more than nine rallies in the second set. The result: 6-4, 6-0 after a bit more than an hour of play.

Rejuvenated Robredo who claimed the Casablanca title less than a month ago got the better of Dutch player Robin Haase in two similar sets. In both of them the eighth seeded Spaniard only managed to consolidate his second break which was enough to book his quarterfinal ticket with a 6-4, 6-4 win after one hour and twenty-six minutes spent on the court.

In the clash of unseeded opponents 113th-ranked domestic player Elias defeated World no. 50 Uzbek Istomin by coming back after a set down. He broke first in the opener, yet Istomin took his serve twice in a row to seize the first set. The Portuguese then opened the second set with a five games run and the decider was soon to follow. Each player dropped a serve by 4-4 when Elias restored his one break lead and wrapped up the match one game later. End score: 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. The Portuguese has not played in an ATP quarter-final yet.
