Nishikori shocks Federer in Madrid, Nadal through

Japan´s Kei Nishikori upset the no.2 seed Swiss Roger Federer in the third round of the Mutua Madrid Open, defeating him in three sets 6-4 1-6 6-2.

After splitting the first two sets, Nishikori managed to break the defending champion´s serve to take a 3-1 lead in the decider that he never let go, securing himself a quarter-final spot at this year´s Madrid Masters.

Elsewhere, former world no.1 Rafael Nadal made light work of his Russian opponent Mikhail Youzhny, ousting him in straight sets 6-2 6-3.

With this win, Rafa set up a all spanish quarter-final encounter as he will meet David Ferrer next, who eliminated German Tommy Haas 7-5 4-6 6-4.
