Jovanovski shocks Wozniacki in Roland Garros, Kuznetsova through

Spanish 20th seed Carla Suarez Navarro played against 170th ranked Shelby Rogers of the United States in the second round on Wednesday. The Spaniard took out Simona Halep while the American wild card beat another wild card Irena Pavlovic in the first round. Rogers surprisingly took the first set from the clay court specialist with a spectacular backhand 6-3. In the second set games went with serve to 4-4 when Suarez Navarro got the vital break and served out the set 6-4. Suarez Navarro broke in the first game of the decider and held for 2-0 but Rogers levelled. The Spaniard broke again and went 4-2 up and served out the set 6-4.

10th seeded Dane Caroline Wozniacki also played her second round match in the afternoon sunshine on Wednesay, against 47th ranked Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia. Wozniacki came through against Laura Robson in the first round, while Jovanovski beat Barbora Zahlavova Strycova. Games went with serve in the first set until the seventh game when the Serb broke, but the Dane broke straight back. A tie break ensued, won by the Serb 7-2. Jovanovski went 3-0 up in the second set before Wozniacki got on the scoreboard. The Serb broke again to lead 5-2 and took the set 6-3 for a great win.

Svetlana Kuznetsova, ranked at 39, took on Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia, ranked at 52. Kuznetsova beat the 22nd seed Ekateria Makarova in the first round and Rybarikova easily defeated Pauline Parmentier. Kuznetsova had a complete meltdown in the first set, which she lost 6-1, but she got her game together and took the second set 6-2. She was 5-1 up in the decider, but got broken back when serving for the set. She made no mistake on her second chance and served out the set 6-2.
