Serbian 9th seed Jelena Jankovic played against the 114th ranked qualifier from Canada, Eugenie Bouchard, in the bottom half of the draw quarter finals. Bouchard had a straight sets win in the first round, took out 16th seed Laura Robson in the second and got the win against Sam Stosur who retired with the Canadian leading 6-1 2-0 in the third round. After a great run through the tournament, she had no answers to Jankovic’s solid game, which the Serb won easily 6-2 6-1 in two minutes over the hour for her 500th career match win. She will next play 63rd ranked Stephanie Voegele of Switzerland in the semis.

In the night match to complete the semi final line up, Voegele took on 2nd seeded Caroline Wozniacki and caused a huge upset in beating her 3-6 6-4 6-3 for her very first win against a top ten player. The Dane was on top of things at the beginning, taking the first set easily, but Voegele changed her match plan and managed to take the second set to force a breaker. Wozniacki led 3-1 in the third set before Voegele again upped her game to move past the wily Dane, taking the next five games in a row for game, set and match in two hours and eleven minutes on court.
