In the first semi final match at the Family Circle Cup tournament in Charleston on Saturday afternoon, the Williams sisters took to the court, just a day after both of them had had to play two matches because of rain disruption to the schedule. Serena was in devastating form and decimated her older sister’s game, to take the first set 6-1 in just twenty two minutes – without the loss of a single unforced error point. The second set was much the same, with Venus winning just two games before Serena closed out the set 6-2 and the match in just fifty four minutes. Her opponent in the final, where she will be going for her third tournament win in a row, will be Jelena Jankovic.

9th seed Jankovic had a much tougher match against the dark horse of the tournament, 63rd ranked Stephanie Voegele of Switzerland who took out 7th seed Carla Suarez Navarro, 10th seed Julia Goerges and 2nd seed Caroline Wozniacki in her run through to the semis. The Serb started well and built up a 6-4 and led 4-2 lead before Voegele got to grips with her game and took the second set to a breaker, which she won 8-6. With the momentum behind her, the Swiss player took a 2-0 lead in the decider,, but Jankovic managed to claw her way back into the match by winning six games in a row for her victory.
