Isner beats Almagro to win Houston title

John Isner won the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship 2013 in Houston after defeating Spaniard Nicolas Almagro in Sunday’s final, prevailing in straight sets 7-5 6-3.

This was the first clay court title for the American and his sixth ATP title up to date.

Isner reached the final by beating Argentine Juan Monaco in the semis, who got the better of him in last year’s final.

After Almagro went up a break at the start of the first set, he was unable to maintain this advantage and not only did Isner level the score, he took the Spaniard’s serve once more to close out the set.

One more break of serve was sufficient for the American to wrap up the second set and sail to victory after 1 hour and 21 minutes.
