Nina Bratchikova, the 103rd ranked player from Russia, took to court on Friday to play Ayumi Morita of Japan, ranked at 60. Morita was having a wonderful tournament in Thailand, having disposed of Ana Ivanovic in the first round and her compatriot, the amazing 42 year old Kimiko Date Krumm, both in three tough sets. Bratchikova easily defeated Shahar Peer and got the win over Daniela Hantuchova who retired through injury in the second set on her way to the quarters. Things were much tougher for the Russian in this match, which went to three sets 6-1 3-6 6-1 in an hour and forty minutes to make her way into the semis where she will meet Sabine Lisicki.

5th seed Sabine Lisicki of Germany went up against the New Zealander Marina Erakovic, ranked at 75, in the other quarter final in the top half of the draw. Erakovic had taken out the 3rd seed, Su-Wei Hsieh of Taiwan in the first round and the wild carded Thai, Varatchaya Wongteanchai, in the second round, both in straight sets. Lisicki had straight sets wins against two unseeded players on her run to the quarters. Erakovic started off well, taking the first set 7-5, but the sometimes erratic Lisicki got her game together to come back and take the next two sets 6-3 6-2 to book her place in the semis.
