No.8 seed Janko Tipsarevic played an amazing tennis to beat home crowd favorite Lleyton Hewitt and with a 7-6 (4) 7-5 6-3, he advanced into the second round of the Australian Open 2013.

After a very tight first set that went Tipsarevic’s way, Hewitt managed to break the Serb twice in set two to race to a 3-0 lead. However, Tipsarevic stepped up his game enourmously, producing some magical shots not only to level the score in the set, but take Hewitt’s serve once more when he was serving to stay in it.

Despite the former world no.1 Australian reducing a 3-0 deficit in the third set, Tipsarevic’s penetrating ground strokes proved to be too much for Hewitt. Especially the Serb’s backhand down the line did some great damage to Hewitt’s game throughout the match.

Next up for Tipsarevic will be Slovak Lukas Lacko, who defeated Gilles Muller of Luxembourg also in straight sets 6-2 6-4 7-6 (3).

Also through to the next round are no.16 seed Kei Nishikori after overcoming Victor Hanescu 6-7 (5) 6-3 6-1 6-3, 26th seeded Jurgen Melzer of Austria with a 6-1 6-1 6-2 win over Mikhail Kukushkin and Jerzy Janowicz as he beat Simone Bolelli 7-5 6-4 6-3.
