Federer beats Paire to advance to 2nd round of Australian Open

Roger Federer beat Frenchman Benoit Paire to start his Australian Open 2013 campaign, winning in straight sets 6-2 6-4 6-1.

The Swiss maestro managed to save all three break points he faced in the match, winning 84% of the points after the first serve. On the other hand, he took Paire’s serve six time alltogether, producing 25 winners against 18 unforced errors.

Federer is trying to win his fifth Australian Open title (breaking the tie with Andre Agassi, who has also got four victories here). Next up for the second seeded Swiss will be Russia’s Nikolay Davydenko, who defeated Dudi Sela of Israel 3-6 6-1 7-5 6-3.

From the other seeded players, 6th seeded Argentine Del Potro demolished Adrian Mannarino of France 6-1 6-2 6-2 and no.12 seed Marin Cilic of Croatia overcame Australian Marinko Matosevic 6-4 7-5 6-2.

Also through to round two is Australian Bernard Tomic, who made light work of his Argentinian opponent Leonardo Mayer, dismissing him with a 6-3 6-2 6-3 scoreline to the delight of the home crowd. Tomic , shall he win his next round match against Daniel Brands of Germany, could face the winner of the match between Federer and Davydenko in round three.
