Novak Djokovic – Feliciano Lopez 6-3 6-3

6-3 6-3 SET and MATCH DJOKOVIC! Novak strikes again and takes Lopez’s serve for the third time in today’s encounter

6-3 5-3 The strap on the net is half broken, but the players decide to carry on playing instead of having it fixed. It might hold another couple of games that might be required to finish this match. Djoko makes sure it will hold as he storms to take the 8th game of the set. The crowd witnesses possibly the best rally of the match that goes to the Serb.

6-3 4-3 After taking a 40-15 lead, Lopez misjudges Djokovic’s return that lands way in the court and misses yet another easy forehand to let the Serb back into the game. Djokovic accepts the invitation, earns himself a break point with a forehand winner. The Spaniard averts it with a clever volley drop shot and his serve finally helps him for a crucial hold. Gives him a fighting chance in this match..

6-3 4-2 Djokovic’s first serve stat is 70% and no wonder that he feels more than confident coming into the net more often. This one is slipping away from Lopez, is unable to win a single point in this 6th game. After just 53 minutes of play, he is two games away from going out of the tournament.

6-3 3-2 The Spaniard closes the gap but will need to take Djokovic’s serve very soon if he wants to keep his QF chances alive..

6-3 3-1 Lopez has been struggling with Djoko’s serve so far. Is unable to take more than two points off Djoko’s serve when receiving, and another confident hold to 15 means that the Serb consolidates the break and takes a 3-1 lead in the second set.

6-3 2-1 BREAK! A sloppy start from Lopez who goes 0-30 down after commiting two unforced errors. After another forehand mishit, the Serb gets gifted three break points. Fails to convert the first one as his return sails long. The Spaniard saves the second one with an ace but is unable to avert the third one. Misses a volley and Djokovic breaks for the second time in today’s encounter.

6-3 1-1 Djokovic is mixing up his shots with some superior confidence, throws in the ocassional serve and volley to confuse his opponent. Despite hitting his first double fault of the match, he erases it with yet another ace and holds to 15.

6-3 0-1 A love service game is the best possible answer from Lopez after losing the opening set.

6-3 SET DJOKOVIC! Nole consolidates the break and takes a lead in the match. Another ace and some good net approach secure earn him a tripple set point at 40-0. He doesn’t hesitate and takes the very first one. The stats are superb for the Serb, hits 10 winners and 7 unforced errors in this set, Lopez comes up with 6 winners and commits 13 unforced errors.

5-3 BREAK! Both players try to attack the net as soon as they get a shorter ball. But a little bit of hesitation from Lopez and two missed forehands give Djokovic another two break points at 15-40. This time he takes the first one as the Spaniard’s backhand down the line misfires again and Djoko will be serving for the first set.

4-3 Djokovic looks really strong on his serve, hits two aces to start with. Lopez tries a successful chip-and-charge  but Nole fires his 7th ace of the match and holds to 15.

3-3 Lopez opens up the game with a serve winner just to drop a 10+ rally and the score is set at 15-15. His bullet forehand hands him the lead but he subsequently lets him down and after he produces the first double fault of the match, Djokovic gets to his first break point at 40-30 up. However, Lopez comes up with a massive 222km/h first serve, followed up by another two very decent first serve deliveries and levels the score in this set at 3-3

3-2 Solid as a rock. Djokovic steps up inside the baseline after his first serve finds the mark and doesn’t give his opponent too much of a chance to recover. A hold to 15..

2-2 Almost a copy of the last game, but this time it is Lopez who holds to 30 with a nice smash winner at the end of the game. We are yet to witness a break point from either of the players..

2-1 Novak has to fight a bit harder for this game, but Lopez produces a forehand unforced error at 30-30 and after the Spaniard misses a backhand volley smash, Djoko takes the lead in the match.

1-1 Big serving from Lopez as well, followed up by a couple of winners. A hold to 15 and this match is nicely underway here in Shanghai. A bit of a shame that the center court is half empty..
