Second seed Novak Djokovic defeated Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in their second round match at the Shanghai Masters 2012, winning 6-3 6-2.

The Serb, who won the China Open last week, was in full control of the match from the very beginning. Novak raced to a quick 3-0 lead, breaking Dimitrov and never looking back. The second set was even more one sided as the world no.2 outplayed the 21 year old Dimitrov from the baseline, not allowing him a single break point opportunity throughout the entire match.

Should Djokovic win this year’s Shanghai Masters and Federer lose before the quarterfinals, the Serb would reclaim the no.1 ranking spot.

Next up for Djokovic will be Spaniard Feliciano Lopez, who eliminated no.16 seed German Philipp Kohlschreiber also in straight sets 6-3 6-4.

Defending champion and no.3 seed Andy Murray advanced to the next round without a fight as his opponent Florian Mayer of Germany retired from their match due to a rib injury.

Murray will play Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov, who dismissed 15th seeded Frenchman Gilles Simon 6-3 6-4.

Also through to the third round is American Sam Querrey after coming back from a set down against 14th seeded Kei Nishikori of Japan, prevailing 2-6 6-1 6-4.
