Top Seed Mikhail Youzny advanced to the Quarter Finals in fine style against Rajeev Ram of the United States on Thursday. Clearly hitting a winning rythmn the Russian demonstrated a powerful serve from the word go. Ram was almost blitzed into submission winning just three points at the receiving end, and just one game in total. Youzny drove his advantage home breaking Ram in the opening game of the second set and impressively holding his own serve throughout. The Favourite only needed one match point to seal the tie and make his eighth appearance in the Quarter Finals winning 6-1 6-4.
Also through to the next round is 3rd seeded Slovak Martin Klizan after defeating Italy’s Simone Bolelli in straight sets 6-3 6-3. In the QFS, Klizan will now face Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis, who advanced into the last 8 after his opponent Jurgen Zopp of Estonia was forced to retire when trailing 6-3.
In the other second round matches, 7th seeded Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain got through to the QFs after Italy’s Paolo Lorenzi retired from their match whilst trailing 6-1 3-1 and another Italian Flavio Cipolla was a bit more fortunate after he defeated Grega Zemlja of Slovenia 6-2 6-7 (5) 6-3.
