World number 9 Janko Tipsarevic was able to book his place in the quarterfinal of the Rogers Cup as he overcame Croatian player Marin Cilic in straight sets 6-2 6-4 in 74 minutes. After both players held serve twice in the first set, play was suspended because of rain. After the delay Tipsarevic won four consecutive games breaking Cilic’s serve twice to win the set 6-2. While the Croat’s level seemed to sink after the rain delay, the Serbian was much better, dropping only 2 points on first serve and winning 71% on serve. In the second set the fifth seed, Tipsarevic, needed only one break in the fifth game to take the set 6-4. Cilic had three chances to break early in the set, but Tipsarevic saved them all. The Serbian will now play with either Frenchman Chardy or Spaniard Granollers in the quarter final. The encounter between Chardy and Granollers had to be suspended due to rain. Granollers was leading 6-1 3-2. All quarterfinal matches aswell as the match between the winner of Granollers and Chary against Tipsarevic should take place later today if the rain allows it.
