4-time slam champion Russian Maria Sharapova is through to the third round of the 2012 US Open after a comfortable 6-0  6-1 win over Spanish player Lourdes Dominguez-Lino in a match that lasted 54 minutes. The world number 3 was clearly the better player from the beginning of the match and didn’t give any chances to the Dominguez-Lino, who only managed to get on the scoreboard in the second game of the second set. Throughout the match, Sharapova hit 6 aces, 30 winners and won 93% of net points while the 31-years old Spaniard was unable to hit any aces or winners and managed to win  only 40% of her service points.

Sharapova, who is looking for another title in New York after her win in 2006, will face American wild card holder, the 21-years old Mallory Burdette next. The American is ranked 252 in the world. “She’s obviously going to get a lot of home support, which is absolutely normal,” Sharapova said of Burdette, who is playing her first US Open. “I understand on the other side if the crowd does cheer for her as she’s coming in as the underdog.”

Samantha Stosur and Marion Bartoli are also through to the third round as the Australian player posted a 6-3  6-0 win over Edina Gallovits-Hall and the French player prevailed in a three set battle Romina Oprandi, winning 6-2  1-6  7-5.
