While rain interrupted matches of other seeded players, Samantha Stosur advanced to the second round of 2012 US Open with ease.

Defending champion Australian Stosur cleared her first hurdle on the way to repeating last year’s US Open success. It took her no more than 53 minutes to cruise past young Croat Petra Martic who made it to the second round in 2011, but was helpless against seventh seed Stosur this year. Martic could hardly win a point on Stosur’s serve while giving away five of her owns. The result 6-1, 6-1.

Another Australian DellAcqua was succesful against Ukrainian Tsurenko. Neither of the players were confident with their serving, but Tsurenko will especially not be happy about losing four service games in the second set. End result: 6-2, 6-3. In other matches Georgian Tatishvili dominated against French Foretz and won with 6-2, 6-0; Czech Hradecka needed an hour and fifteen minutes to overcome Medina Garrigues of Spain in two straight sets: 6-3, 6-3.

Other clashes that were scheduled at the same time have been interrupted due to rain.
