Serena Williams beats Jankovic in the first round of the Olympics

Serena Williams marched into the second round of the Olympic games after defeating former world no.1 Jelena Jankovic with a very convincing scoreline 6-3  6-1.

Williams is aiming to win her first Olympic singles gold, she has got two gold medals from the doubles competition.

The American has just won her 14th Grand Slam at this year’s Wimbledon and looks to be more than determined to repeat that victory here at the All England Club.

Next up for Williams will be Poland’s Urszula Radwanska, who eliminated Mona Barthel in straight sets 6-4  6-3.

Also through to the next round is Kim Clijsters after a comfortable 6-1  6-4 win over Italy’s Roberta Vinci and Ana Ivanovic after dismissing Christina McHale 6-4  7-5.
