World no.9 Juan Martin del Potro moved into the second round of the 2012 London Olympics held at the All England Club in Wimbledon.

The Argentine made light work of Ivan Dodig of Croatia, beating him 6-4  6-1 and setting up a next round encounter against Italy’s Andreas Seppi, who dismissed American Donald Young also in straight sets 6-4  6-4.

Del Potro, who lost in the fourth round of this year’s Wimbledon championships (going out to Spaniard Ferrer), started the match with an early break. After both players held their serves for the rest of the set, the Argentina got a well deserved one set lead.

The second set was a complete different story. Despite Dodig holding his first service game to love, he went on losing the following six games and handed the victory to Del Potro in just 1 hour and 9 minutes.

Also through to the second round are Russia’s Alex Bogomolov Jr. after defeating Carlos Berlocq of Argentina 7-5  7-6 (5), Frenchman Gilles Simon eliminated Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan 6-4  6-2 and Gilles Muller of Luxembourg overcame Romanian Adrian Ungur 6-3  6-3.
