Djokovic v. Roddick: FINAL 6-2 6-1

6-1: Roddick takes a point on Djoko’s serve, and then another! The crowd approve, somewhat optimistically hoping for a third set. Then normal service is resumed and some excellent tennis at the net brings us to a match point which Roddick saves to force deuce. Two stunning aces from Djokovic later and it’s Game, Set and Match. 6-2 6-1.

5-1: Roddick is looking frustrated now as another error hits the net. The crowd want more and offer their encouragement but a top class passing shot from Djokovic goes beyond Roddick for break point. A stunning return from Djokovic gives the Serbian another break.

4-1: Djokovic shows he’s no slouch on the serve either, obliterating Andy Roddick and finishing with a perfectly weighted forehand.

3-1: Roddick retains his serve with some powerful hitting. There’s life in this match yet.

3-0: Roddick has now lost 6 games on the trot. Will he stop the slide by breaking Djokovic’s serve? Djokovic is trying to end this quickly and comes in close to the net, only for Roddick to save the game point and bring it to 40-30. His efforts are in vain though, an ace on the next point wins the game for Djokovic.

2-0: Acrobatics from Roddick aren’t enough as a spectacular diving volley goes long. Despite a rare unforced error from Djokovic, the Serbian reaches break point with a great baseline winner, before breaking the American with an exquisite lob. Roddick is in trouble.

1-0: Djokovic starts as he means to go on, opening the second set with an ace. Roddick resists briefly, but another unforced error gives the first game to Djokovic in the second set.


6-2: Roddick now serving to stay in this first set and wins two points without reply. However a couple of unforced errors let Djokovic back in. The Serbian gets lucky as he hits the net, only to watch the ball dribble over on to Roddick’s side. A second break goes Djokovic’s way and he claims the first set.

5-2: Djokovic follows up a break with an outstanding hold. Roddick never got near that game. 40-0.

4-2: Roddick struggles to hold serve and Djokovic rushes to break point. Roddick passes wide. First break to Djokovic.
