Roger Federer worked his way through to the Gerry Weber Open quarterfinals after defeating German Florian Mayer in straight sets 6-4 7-5.

The Swiss had a couple of break points opportunities in the 6th and 8th games of the first set, but Mayer managed to hold. However, the German finally wilted under pressure, dropping his serve in the 10th game to give the 6 times Halle champion Federer the lead in the match.

In set 2, both players were holding their serves with confidence until the 12th game, when the 16 time Grand Slam champion struck again and set up a quarterfinal encounter against Canadian Milos Raonic.

Also through to the last 8 is the no.1 seed Nadal, who eliminated Slovakia’s Lacko 7-5  6-1.
