Rafael Nadal was at his very best in today’s match against Tomas Berdych at the Rome Masters, prevailing in straight sets 6-4  7-5 and booking his place in Saturday’s semifinal.

The Spaniard moved extremely well and managed to come up with some unbelievable winners against the no.7 seed Czech.

“I played one of my best matches of the year today. Tomas is a player with a lot of confidence and playing very well, so I am very happy with how I played.” said Nadal after the match.

The first set was decided in the opening game as the Spaniard took his opponent serve and managed to hold his own for the rest of the set to close it out. Nadal showed some superb defence and took his chances whenever he saw a slight opportunity to attack Berdych.

Both players had their chances to go a break up at the start of the second set, but it was finally Berdych who took advatage of Nadal’s only weak momentum in the match and took a 4-2 lead. Unfortunately for the Czech, Rafa broke right back and the set was back on track. Although Berdych managed to get out of trouble when serving at 4-4, he couldn’t avert Nadal taking his serve in the 11th game. The Spaniard didn’t let this one slip out of hands anymore and closed out the match in 2 hours and 5 minutes.

In the semis, Nadal will play David Ferrer, who overcame Richard Gasquet 7-6 (4)  6-3. It will be a re-match of the Barcelona final, where Ferrer played a superb match despite of Nadal beating him.
