Tsonga beats Monfils in Qatar Open Final

Share & Comment

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won his eighth career title as he defeated Gael Monfils in the Qatar Open Final 7-5  6-3.

Tsonga reached the final as Federer withdrew from their semifinal encouter due to a back injury. Monfils dismissed Nadal in the other semis.

The world no.6 Tsonga started the match slowly as Monfils broke him to take a 3-1 lead, but he quickly recovered and after finding his rhythm he took the first set 7-5. He kept his form in the second set and didn´t really give Monfils an opporunity as one break was enough to seal the match and win the title.

This is a good victory for Tsonga and will give him enough confidence before the Australian Open.
