Djokovic Sets Prize Money Earnings Record After Winning US Open

With the 2011 US Open victory, world no.1 Novak Djokovic surpassed Nadal’s last year’s earnings of $10.2 million with some more tournaments still to come.

The 24 year old Serb earned himself $1.8 million after he defeated world no.2 Nadal in this year’s Open final and also secured a $500,000 bonus for finishing at the top of the US Open Series rankings.

Djokovic, who improved his match record to 64-2 this year, will be heading for the Davis Cup semifinal tie against Argentina next.

The only other player who managed to accumulate more than $10 million in prize money in one year is the Swiss maestro Federer.
