Top seed Almagro reaches quarterfinals at Malaysian Open

World nr.11 and top seed Nicola Almagro reached the quarterfinals at the Malaysian Open by beating Spain’s Albert Ramos 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4).

He will now play Kei Nishikori of Japan, who overcame Germany’s Philipp Petzschner 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.

The second seeded Serbian Victor Troicki also secured himself a place in the quarters as he eliminated Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 6-1, 6-4. He will be playing Austrian Jurgen Melzer next.

In the other matches, third-seed Janko Tipsarevic ousted Flavio Cipolla 6-2, 6-4 and will face Nikolay Davydenko of Russia, who beat Poland’s Lukasz Kubot 6-3, 7-6 (2).
