BD,

ATP corrected the Cuenca Challenger list. Added
Cha, Bo Ram KOR 360

So Kwon was first out.

Now they have already cleared the two SE spots. So Kwon and Flock are IN now!

Cuenca challenger cast

Postby Guest » Thu Jun 09, 2005 1:02 am

Is it a joke ? :?

This is the first time I see only 3 players from TOP 300 in the challenger.
Nobody wants to play there or what happened ? If so , the quality of tournament will be very low. Maybe ATP have rather to cancel this tournament, when they saw that players have no interest. :KooKoo:

I suppose the most of higher ranked players will rather try Wimbledon qualifying, where they get more money instead of playing here. :?

That's right... most players between 100 and 250 are in Wimbledon qualies this week... guys between 250 and 300 may hope to get into qualifying as well... probably others are trying to qualify in Nottingham and Rosmalen where the absence of the 100-250 players make it easier... and if they fail they can still enter Wimby qualies...
Add to that the cost of travel to Ecuador for European-based players...

I'm surprised that Sabau is going to Cuenca... with his ranking he could enter Braunschweig or be seeded at Wimby qualies...

Sabau likes to travel a lot and I believe he goes to Cuenca to win the tournament and get into the first 100......

I don't think Elsner needs the wildcard, because he is already in the main list directly!

Here are the links for the draws -

Braunschweig Q - http://www.atptennis.com/posting/2005/526/QS.pdf
Cuenca Q - http://www.atptennis.com/posting/2005/3341/QS.pdf

Main draws:

Braunschweig - http://www.atptennis.com/posting/2005/526/MDS.pdf (SUN. time TBA)
Cuenca - http://www.atptennis.com/posting/2005/3341/MDS.pdf (SAT. 1 pm)

The Cuenca list has not moved for a couple of days. That still has some 4-5 more hours to change. The Braunschweig qualies draw will be outr any moment now, I guess.

The Braunschweig main draw is still not posted anywhere, but if I am reading the German blurb at the tournament website correctly, Calleri did not pick up on the wildcard and Elsner made direct entry, thus clearing two WCs in the last minute.

It looks like DiPasquale and Matthias Bachmann got the last minute wildcards.

How do players go about buying these wildcards? Do they have to be a certain standard or can anyone who has an ipin go and buy one?

Fulford-jones must of bought one, but where would he of bought it from???

Wild cards are given at the discretion of the tournament directors. They can give them to anyone they wish. Only exception (I think) is that players who are on entry list in another tournament, or played in qualifying, are not eligible for WC.

Oh i see. That makes sense seeing that neither Ryan Russel or Amedes Fulford-Jones were on the list or any other lists, thanks :HeadBang:

When nitsansh said "in the entry list of another tournament", he meant "wit hin the entry cut" .. Somebody on an ALt list can be given a wildcard at another tournament.

There are also some exceptions, like during the week before grand slam, when the qualifying event can be counted as a different week's event. This week for instance, Mark Philippoussis was inside the cut in the qualifying list for Wimbledon, but he was given a wildcard at the Rosmalen ATP. His name was cut out from the qualies list for wimbledon. I think that was allowed only because Wimbledon qualies can be counted as an event for next week and Rosmalen for this week.

Didn't Philipousis get a WC for Wimbledon MD, so he was out of the qualifying list?

Bo Ram Cha

Postby Pete » Wed Jun 15, 2005 1:23 am

According to ATP website Bo-Ram Cha plays under protected ranking in Cuenca. Are they correct ? And is his PR 360 then ? I haven´t noticed mark @ beside his ranking in the entry list above.

edit BD - yes, I forgot the @ in the list above. Have corrected it now
