I see that Alex is on the alt. list for both Prostejov & Surbiton. Because these are alternate lists that means that he can choose either tourney without some sort of penalty, correct?

I would hope that he would choose Prostejov but it looks like he make get into Surbiton first.

Not unless someone gives me a free plane ticket ;) . I'll probably go up to Yuba City for a day or two, maybe more.

Why? What do you need? ;)

To be in England during grass season would be a dream for me - Surbiton, Queens, Notts, Wimbledon, maybe even the Liverpool exo. I would do them if I had the chance. Perhaps next year....

Right there with you!! An entire year of clay court tournaments would be my dream :D . I'm dreading the 5 weeks of hell that is grasscourt tournaments. At least there are a few Challengers on clay to follow :) . If Alex does play Surbiton, I will be forced to make that my #1 tourney to follow that week :(

Good man! you can always tell who has clay in their veins
I think there is a bournemout event on clay here, but its like a 10k event lol (future). Monfils won it in 2004 i think. But not really what i would say as a real claycourt event, like we need here!

Hey Tonix -- do you have like an automated program that comes in every week and asks this question to BD? .. :)

But really, as you know by now, there is no point in knowing if anybody is in any ALT lists unless they are close enough to the cut, ie, in the list that BD posts. Otherwise, there is really not much chance at all that the player would be going to the event at all.

Hello Jay,
Thanks for the explanation.
Please let me know how can I check the players who will play only double but their names are not appearing in ALT Lists (posting by BD) because their low ranking in single.

I made a question asking BD to check the players from Thailand ( Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana ) who are ranked about 1000 on ATP singles but they are ranked 133 in doubles.

I'm sure this is a question that gets asked all the time and I apologize in advance, but if SE spots are not needed and they are cleared, do people just get in off the alt list?

Thank you

thanks for the updates Jay

just found a cool passage about Surbiton in a Dick Norman interview :

Dick Norman outlined yesterday his anathema of Surbiton, where he is entered for the tournament next week. "I don't like to go there," the 34-year-old Belgian said, "First of all, a lot of top-100 players are there. Second, the hotel is bad; the [racket] stringer is bad; the meal is bad. Try it yourself if you don't believe me."

Norman, best remembered for defeating Stefan Edberg en route to the fourth round at Wimbledon in 1995, was addressing the Belgian media after defeating Jean-René Lisnard, of France, 6-1, 6-1, 6-4, as a lucky loser. If his luck runs out this week, he can expect a warm welcome in Surrey. :D

Yeah, its is like the Bronx challenger just before the US Open. Many players are left with no option but to go there, and they all complain ... I didn't know if Surbiton is hated as universally as Bronx is.

Interesting comments from Dick Norman. Mentioning even the racquet stringer is funny! .. And the food - well, the British are not known for any excellence beyond fish and chips on that department anyway, no? ....

Jay

PS: My being an Indian, I am allowed to poke some fun at the British ;)

My mother was English and she was a wicked good cook. Her worst crime was overspicing things, especially that yellow curry powder. Took me years to get over that and develop my own appreciation for real Indian food. The comments about English food have always perplexed me growing up because I never had a problem with it, especially the things that the Brits do right like Shepherd's Pie, etc. I'm getting hungry just thinking about a traditional Sunday roast beef with potatoes, veggies, yorkshire pudding, gravy... or even a full English breakfast with bacon, sausages, eggs, toast and tea. The real problem with English food is that it will kill you by the time you are 50 if you aren't careful! :D

The so called english foods that all non brits complain about :D is the crap that english people dont actually eat! It depends how you eat i suppose, i am english and i wont eat crap like fish and chips, shephards pie etc (i like to eat alot of fish and vegetables :D).

Does anyone know when the qualies draw/entry list will come out?

Well, most of the Challengers have Friday night at 9 pm sign ins for qualies, so it would be after that. If Surbiton isn't starting the men's qualies until Sunday, they might have a Saturday evening sign-in. Look at the fact sheet I guess.

Well, most of the Challengers have Friday night at 9 pm sign ins for qualies, so it would be after that. If Surbiton isn't starting the men's qualies until Sunday, they might have a Saturday evening sign-in. Look at the fact sheet I guess.

Surbiton is a saturday avo sign in ; main draw starts on tuesdag

PS : FYI, all the challengers this week have a saturday avo qualie sign in

There only a few players in the maindraw currently at rg:
hanescu
lee
waske

so these 3 may withdraw if they dont lose in the next round or so (hanescu and lee in singles) and waske in doubles.

OK, I'm sure this situation happened before but I didn't pay attention to the reply, I'm sure.

It looks like Alex has yet to pull his name from the Alt. list for Prostejov. What's going to happen if two more people pull and he's in the MD there as well? Will he get penalized by one tourney for choosing the other?

Alex can decide where he wants to play, he'll probably go for the tournament with the highest price money. watch the updates provided by Jay, sooner or later Alex will disappear from a list.

no penalty. being on the alternates list doens't mean anything, only when you're on the original entry list (as provided by BD) you will get a penalty for not showing up.
