If a player get injured and can´t play for six months he get a protected ranking, the ranking he had at that time he got injured, he can then use the protected ranking to play eight tournaments.

Protected ranking is calculated using the average ranking of the 3 first months of a players' injury

Player must be injured at least 6 months to benefit from PR

I have never understood why they calculate the injury-protected rankings based on the first 3 months of injury, rather than the last three months BEFORE the injury break....

El Aynaoui has used his PR for three tournaments so far (Dubai, Key Biscaine and Monte Carlo), he can use it for five more tournaments (8 in total) in nine months time from the first tournament he competed in with his PR (in this case Dubai).

And he's used it to enter Barcelona, Munich, Rome, & Hamburg. Maybe he is hoping for a wild card to RG?

He is not in the list above for RG, as Smucav say he maybe is hoping for a WC, but then if he don´t get any what is he saving the last protected ranking for? Isn´t he going to retire soon?

I haven't heard anything about retirement. Although he is 33, he was a bit of a late bloomer (like Rafter) & really only started playing his best in his mid/late-20s so he isn't as burned out as some others his age might be. Until his latest injury, he was a top 20 player at the age of 31/32.

Maybe he is saving the last PR entry for Wimbledon or one of the summer AMS tourneys (Canada or Cincinnati) where he's had some good results.

I was hoping to see Nicolas Escudé in the RG entry list. His original plan was to come back for Roland Garros. I guess he has a chance for a WC or then he just plays qualies. Who knows... :? I can't wait to have him back in action. ;)

Dans le tableau masculin, on retrouve 102 des 104 premiers au classement technique de l'ATP, puisque seuls l'Allemand Popp et le Russe Tursunov, blessés, manqueront à l'appel.
It's said that popp and tursunov are withdraw...
is it true or false?
does anyone get informations..??

They must have understood the entry list wrong. Popp and Tursunov are the only 2 who used their protected ranking to get in. They didn't withdraw.

"Here's the update on Escude, who has yet to play this year and has dropped to No. 212. He underwent right shoulder surgery last Sept. 9, and plans to return to practice in the next couple of weeks." Another update, thanks to Nicola Arzani in our Monte Carlo office ... "Funnily enough there was an update in L'Equipe today. ... He started practicing Wednesday at Roland Garros. Recovering from the rotator cuff surgery. Might not be back before 2006. Protected ranking is 65."[/url]

This is correct. His scheduled comeback is at the Priority Telecom Dutch Open in Amersfoort, which is in July, not June.

Zabaleta injured his ankle at Monte Carlo in the match against Ferrer and will not be playing at Roland Garros.

The earliest he'll be back for is Båstad.

Scott Draper

Postby Kowalczyk » Sun May 01, 2005 1:27 am

I see that Scotty Draper has been busy preparing for the French Open campaign, he has just tied for 8th at the South Australian PGA Golf tournament.

T 8 Scott D Draper QLD -9 74 69 68 68 279 $2,983.33

Looks like he's getting ready for the grass season and Wimbledon.

Tennis appears to be on the way out.

MARK Philippoussis has the chance to answer Pat Rafter's criticism after being offered Tennis Australia's French Open singles wildcard.

Considering he is the first alternate and there are several likely withdrawals then he is almost certainly in the draw............unless he decides golf is more important.

No official withdrawal from the main draw yet, so Scotty is still first-out, but don't worry, he will be in safely soon.

No withdrawals (offcially) yet from the RG main draw.

As Luczak has just gone out from the qualifying list today, I suppose he may have taken the wildcard that Scud declined? ..
