If a player get injured and can´t play for six months he get a protected ranking, the ranking he had at that time he got injured, he can then use the protected ranking to play eight tournaments.

I have never understood why they calculate the injury-protected rankings based on the first 3 months of injury, rather than the last three months BEFORE the injury break....

He is not in the list above for RG, as Smucav say he maybe is hoping for a WC, but then if he don´t get any what is he saving the last protected ranking for? Isn´t he going to retire soon?

I haven't heard anything about retirement. Although he is 33, he was a bit of a late bloomer (like Rafter) & really only started playing his best in his mid/late-20s so he isn't as burned out as some others his age might be. Until his latest injury, he was a top 20 player at the age of 31/32.

Maybe he is saving the last PR entry for Wimbledon or one of the summer AMS tourneys (Canada or Cincinnati) where he's had some good results.

They must have understood the entry list wrong. Popp and Tursunov are the only 2 who used their protected ranking to get in. They didn't withdraw.
