Will seeding be based on 3/7 entry rankings (or 2/21)? The ATP Main Draw is Tuesday, March 8th.

The most current rankings are used to set the seeds.

Is Alex Bogomolov listed anywhere on the alternate list? I see you stop at 15 so he might be in the 20s if he is on it.

Whether I continue to try and make plans to go down that way depends on it. 3 hours by Greyhound to Palm Springs and then however long the transportation from PS to IW is (if I can find that transportation).

So even a glimmer of hope that he might play quallies gives me a push to keep researching. He got a WC last year but i can't count on that for this year.

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Does anyone remember when the WCs were announced for last year? Trying to remember if it was a week before or earlier.

check the archived thread at MTF, its probably there. I vaguely remember that they announced Marat as a WC fairly early.

*Try to post this again*

Thanks, Fee. Unfortunately, it looks like the WCs were released just days before the MD last year and that doesn't help me much.

As it stands I will be going on the 9th OR the 11th OR the 12th. I figured the 9th might be my strongest possibility. the bad thing is that I have to make my transportation reservations going from Palm Springs to IW 2 weeks in advance because i'm a visitor 8-[ .

The qualifying entry list will be here soon. Yesterday was the deadline to enter for qualies. So the list comes out this week ...

Tabara and Lu are in for the challenger in Kyoto the same week as the Indian Wells start, that should mean that they are out from the alternate list for IW

Not necessarily. The qualifying start on Wednesday, so if they are out of Kyoto in 1st round they can still make it to IW...

Hello, i have two doubts.

Is there any player as a direct acceptance in Indian Wells using a protected ranking ?.

And the second question is, the protected ranking can be used to be a seeded player or only uses to entry as a direct acceptance but doesn't count to be a seeded player ?

1. According to the list above no players with protected ranking
2. Protected ranking can only be used as an entry, don´t get you any seeding

Jay, I have a question about the updates.
You have KJ Hippensteel in as first alternate.
I had him in my original list.
Did ATP add a name after the list came out first the first time?

No, it´s the ranking of six weeks ago that counts of who´s gonna enter IW, for Wayne Arthurs it will be easier to get in into tournaments that are played in six weeks time from now (monte carlo and forward)

Isn't Tabara (just as Lu) forced to play in Kyoto as he has entered there in the main draw?

Anybody who plays another event and loses early, who can come in to play qualies by wednesday (thursday?) is allowed to play at the IW qualies. The ATP will check with those players before making the draw the night before.

Those who play another event this week, lose and come to play qualies at Indian Wells, are not allowed to play NEXT week anywhere that is all.

In other words, the ususal "maximum one tournament a week" rule applies over a two week period.

But this isn't about qualies but main tournament draw. What if Tabara and Lu do make it to the 2nd round or later of Kyoto and then the main draw is made at Tuesday?

Oh, sorry .. Similar thing for main draw too .. Here is what ATP has said,

Players who have competed and lost by 6pm on Tuesday, March 8 in the Kyoto Challenger or the France F4, Italy F3, Great Britain F3, Portugal F3 or USA F6 Futures ITF Men’s Circuit Events may compete if otherwise eligible in the Indian Wells Qualifying. These players will not be permitted to participate in another tournament during the second week of Indian Wells;

So Tabara and Lu (who are in Kyoto Challenger entry list) are not allowed to play in Indian Wells if I understand this correctly. Only qualies are mentioned

I suspect their wording is a bit weird, that's all. As the main draw is made on the Tuesday 1 pm, by when we would have gone past 6 pm at Kyoto and all the other listed events (except USA F6), they will know who is eligible to play IW qualifying or main draw. I see no reason why they would allow somebody to be placed in the qualifying draw that starts the next day but not in the main draw which is two days later! ..

As far as I know, they will allow Lu and Tabara, if they have lost at Kyoto on monday or tuesday, to be in the main draw made on Tuesday, fly in and play on wednesday at Indian Wells [TUE 6pm at Kyoto is much earlier than the TUE 1 pm at IW when the main draw is made] ..

Interesting.

Update:

Indian Wells
OUT: Koubec, Kuerten, Soderling (and O.Hernandez, Tabara from ALT)
IN: Carlsen, Monaco, Lu
NEXT: Sluiter, Mathieu, K.Kim, J.Nieminen, Hanescu, Haehnel, Gambill, Wessels

Indian Wells Q
OUT: Gasquet, Luczak, Mahut, Monaco (and Kratochvil, Baker from ALT)
IN: Hippensteel, Tsonga, Brzezicki, Monfils
NEXT: Kunitsyn, Marach, Weiner, Serra, Reynolds, Vico, Luzzi

Well, it looks like Tabara told them that he has no plans to come down to IW whether he wins or loses, but Lu has now gone into the list ..

What;s your thought about 8 more players withdrawing. THat will mean Wessels enters the main draw.

And does this means that Tabara, because he is allowed to play now, but chooses to play Kyoto now has zero points for this tournament (as one of his 18 best)? This because IW is one of the tournaments that has to be counted is someone can play there?

Tabara will not have a "zero" becouse he wasn't in the original entry list.
