I think the reason there is no SE spot is because the qualifiers don't start until Monday. This means anyone playing in the semis at Indian Wells would be able to get to Miami before it starts and so wouldn't need a SE.

Qualifying deadline is on Monday 30 minutes before play begin so the draw will be made the same day

Patrik: That is the deadline for qualifying Alternate sign-in, not for qualifying entry itself. The qualifying draw would be made, based on the entry list for Q as above, on the previous day, at least by night-time. As there is no sign-in for qualifying itself and players in the draw are required to arrive only by the time their match time on monday, the qualifying draw is made without the knowledge of who has arrived on site (this is the case with all the qualies for which ATP has an early entry deadline and a list). Though there is a fine for no-show, there would probably be a couple of no-shows on Monday. The sign-in above is for alternates to fill those spots. The highest ranked players who have arrived on-site and signed in monday morning, would be placed as qualifying alternates. You don't need to have been in the main or qualifying entry list for you to make it in as an alternate, and hence the sign-in for that.

And maybe the fact that he wasn't in the MD and he had to play quallies, I don't think he's that injured.donkie wrote:Does anyone know why Sluiter withdrew from qualifying?
I know he had a knee injury (which is why he didn't play Davis Cup for the Netherlands against Switzerland) but he did play the Sunrise challenger last week.
